I don't know why I always seem find this depressing sh*t

Saturday, December 02, 2006

I do know I had checked out Holly Lisle's Talyn, when it was first released--in part because of all the positive buzz and interesting blurb--but the hardcover price pretty much deep six any possibility of a purchase at that time.

I thought I'd wait for the paperback release. Alison Kent and Lynn Viehl were giving away pb copies recently in contests on their blogs, but I figured I'd cough up the cash for that one more sale.

Anywho, Holly has a post up: How to kill a career in three easy books that gets to the heart of her concern for this series. I'm fairly sure some of this was unlying Anne Stuart's earlier (controversial (?)) comments. Read it and.... well, you know.

Damn.
You're right.
VERY depressing.
Makes you wonder if it's a waste of time...

It almost makes epublishing look good--and I say that tongue in cheek

Scary stuff, Larissa. :-/ I think one of the ways to safeguard against this (if there are ways) is to have multiple releases from different publishers (maybe even a couple of different sub-genres). You've done this. :-)

Raine, I don't think it's a waste of time, but it ain't easy. And, apparently, it never gets any easier. There's always some obstacle. You're literally as good as your last sale. :-/

lol. Hey, no joke. For those doing good at epublishing, it's a nice little safety net. ;-)

I think you're right. Diversity is the key. It is a hell of a lot harder to build a career that way, but it ups your odds of staying published when the market changes. I never could write in one genre anyhow.

Oh, what's the damned point? This is so utterly depressing. I'm going to go stick my head back in the sand. Excuse me....
