LOL oh no!!!!!!
Oh, Lord.
Who did you kill?
Do you need help hiding the body?
LOL. I say Go Nuts. I think some people in your life have been living on borrowed time for a while. I'll bail you out of jail if needed. *grin*
Hi, um this is really weird I was just typing my name in google and I found a name that said Vanessa Jaye... please tell me that your name is Jaye Vanessa... (insert last name) because that is my name! it´s actually scaring me cause I didnt know that there was another girl out there named Jaye
weird! anyways you prolly think that I am a weirdo so I am going to go! I just couldn´t believe it thats all
anyways take care!
LOL! Jaye, that would certainly freak the hell outta me. :-/
Vanessa is my middle name, the Jaye=J my first initial (and one of my nick-names), figured it made a half decent pen-name. ;-)
It's funny how many Jaye's I've run across online, yet I know virtually no Jayes in real life.
I had several really long comment posts telling the story behind this blog post. A little too long, so here's the short version:
I did a crit for someone on my crit loop, a very, *very* through crit, but not mean. (That experience with the reason behind the post on crits below).
By the simple fact that she *pointedly* did not thank me--while thanking others--I knew she didn't care for my crit. Fair enough.
Fast forward a couple of days. I post one of my RJ entries for a last minute polish before submitting for final judging. Yep you guessed it, girlfriend decided to do a 'revenge' crit on my stuff. Here's a couple of examples of the comments from the crit she gave me (all spelling mistakes hers):
YOUR MAIN CHARACTER IS A LITTLE CONSEDED AND LIKES THE FACT THAT
HE HURTS AND KILLS THINGS ALOT. WHY IS THAT.
and:
THIS IS A LITTLE BORING AND DOESN'T REALLY PAINT THAT GREAT OF A PICTURE. IT NEEDS TO BE EYE CATCHING. RIGHT NOW IT IS JUST WORDS ON PAPER AND NOTHING TO IMAGINE
and:
YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DESCRIPTION AND YOUR STORY IS FLAT IT ISN'T
THAT INTERESTING AND IT DOESN'T PAINT A GOOD PICTURE. YOU NEED TO
WORK ON THAT.
*sigh*
So, I wrote her a thank you reply, and that's where the title of this blog post came from. *g*
See next comment post below...
The title of this blog post seems Zen like, doesn't it? Like something you'd find in your fortune cookie? It's the last line in my 'thank you' and I think it's a nice bit of advice. I'm particularly proud of it for another reason....
But first, the thank you:
(Name deleted), thank you for a very interesting crit. ;-)
You certainly took a good stab at it.
You had a lot of questions and seemed very confused about quite a bit; a sad state of affairs, to say the least. (Bad author! *g*) I thought a few things were at least inferred/implied. Oh well.
As this is the first 25 pages of a single title length--385 pages to 400 pages--manuscript, and not a novelette, there's pages enough so that some of your concerns will become clearer.
Others, probably not. Ever.
I'm awfully sorry you took the time to critique, with such depth and insight, something you didn't enjoy. How generous of you to want to help me improve in my craft, despite this. Best intentions take
conscientious handling, I always say.
Thanks again!
I worked real hard to hone the sarcasm to a fine razor edge. Somehow I think the effort was wasted. ;)
Back to that last line, the reason I'm particularly tickled with it is..... it's an acronym. heh.
Very well revised, Ms. Jaye. ;-)
I think you handled the situation quite gracefully.
And LOVE the acronym, lol!!!
I'm going to adopt that saying as a sort of motto/short hand. From now on, any time I say: Best Intentions Take Careful Handling, what I really mean is 'Deal with the beyotch.' Set her straight. ;-)
That saying could also go for situations that require a bit of tact/finesse, but you don't necessarily have to play nice. ;-)
(Believe it or not, it may seem like I'm caught up in this, but another part of my brain is actively plotting the next scene in the wip. i just realized that. weird.)
