Link Slutting

Monday, September 26, 2005

I came across some posts that touched upon some of the reasons I'd been having problems getting a number of books recently.

1. Ann Fraiser's "When Good Books Go Bad" post addresses the balance of description vs plot.

2. Sara Donati talks about the author breaking trust with the reader due to lack of research. **this link now fixed.

3. Dee Tenorio talks about phraseology and the dangers of repetition.

From Sammy K...
"Writers, to be really good at this profession, you need to know everything about the publishing process. Once you know that, you’ll realize that you don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to ever make any money in this business."

Geez, thanks for sharing, Sammy.

Could we get the name of that publisher, so we can be sure they share the same fate?

I find just about all of Sammy K's posts have a very negative vibe under the guise of telling it like it is. Plus there's the fact he charges reading fees....

I just go over there to see what he's bitching about on that day.

And why am I not surprised that a guy who begins his blog going on about how he 'banged' his girlfriend would charge reading fees??!

He sounds burned out to me. I have no doubt that much of the publishing industry would fall into that category too. Let's do the math: 5 times the workload plus 75 authors minus inadequate pay equals extreme burnout. (wg)

I'll agree with you on the inappropriateness of the 'knocking boots' comments, but, hey, it's his blog. And he never professed to be presenting a 'professional' face, so...

Burned out, embittered, something is eating at the guy.

Nice links. Sammy scares the bejeesus out of me. Fortunately, as long as I avoid agents who charge fees, I should be safe.

BTW I linked you--nice blog.
