Steppin up to the plate

ugh. I just came back from the gym.

I. Am. Really. Out. Of. Shape.

At least compared to what I use to be. Gym visits have been very sporadic for the past 5 yrs or so, but on Friday I finally joined a new gym.... across the street. ::shame::

In my defense, it used to be a muscle gym. More steroid dealer friendly than female friendly. And I loved my old gym (Bally's) which I'd been going to for years, albeit less and less recently.

Now, with the gym Right Across The Street open 6am-12pm Mon-Fri, 8am-8pm on Sat and 9-5 on Sunday, I have no excuses not to go. Just how tired would I have to be not to cross the street and at least walk for 30 mins on the treadmill?

Now there's no hassles with packing and lugging around an extra bag, no worries with getting a locker, or getting a machine no travel time. And I can use my own shower! Even inclement weather won't cut it any more as a reason to opt out of excercising. I'll be forced to face the ugly truth: Laziness. Plain and simple. I hate being lazy, but I love being in shape, so things are going to change (for the better) around here.

The same thing kinda happened with the book in a week challenge. I had to get the writing done, no excuses. Now, I had to be realistic, it was month-end at work and things were pressure cooker crazy, so I didn't push myself with the writing, but damned if I didn't do the equivalent of a '30 min walk' through the manuscript everyday. It became a habit, I got shit done, and the story started shaping up.

As much as I felt like collapsing at the very end of my recent session, I feel more energized now than before I did the workout, and my head/thinking is clearer. I'm even toying with the idea of getting up a little earlier in the mornings to put in some solid writing time (30mins to 1hr), maybe even get my blog post in, then hop over to the gym for a quick workout.

So here's to keeping on track, and a much healthier future.

I just started working out a month ago and it feels great! But yeah, I'm so out of shape, too.....
