Checking in

I was good today. Did a quick run-thru of favorite blogs this morning, posted here, then stayed off the pc for the rest of the day, except a couple of times when I checked my email.

Spent most of the day vegging on the sofa, watching tv and writing. Not sure how much (in pages) I wrote, but the prologue is finished, (yay!)--don't want to download stuff from the quickpad until I nail chapter one. Think from now on, this will be my Sunday routine: no computer, just writing and watching tv.

And speaking of tv, I've been slowly getting back into it for the last week or so, as I wean myself off the net. This evening I watched some really great shows:

1. A&E's The First 48 hrs. This is a great show for L&O, CSI or City Confidential junkies/fans (like me). It's non-scripted and follows homicide dectives during the first 48 hours as they try to pick up leads before the trail goes cold, and hopefully even solve the case. For some reason I couldn't pull up any info on google about this one. :-(

2. Deadwood. Love this show. Great writing, great characterization. I only caught a couple of episodes the first season, and bought the dvd recently.

3. Crossing Jordan, I've become a fan of sorts. Not a whole lot of depth, but the characters are fun.

And last, but certainly not least (Where the hell have I been?!?):

4. Nip/Tuck. Can I tell you how much I love this show? I've heard the buzz, but this is the first time I've caught it. The writing is superb. I love it (did I mention that?) I love Christian! The complex weave of the relationships, the humor, pathos, sexual tension. All characters fully fleshed out. I'm buying the season one DVD tomorrow!

Where did all these excellent shows come from? I tuned out when all the reality crap took over, but I just may be warming those sofa cushions more often in the evenings from now on.

Time to hit the sack, nite folks.

I love Crossing Jordan. I've caught the First 48 Hours a couple of times. I didn't realize how crucial that time period was until I saw that show. I also didn't realize that the chances of solving a murder drop by half if they don't catch a break in the first 48 hours. I think all the crime shows (CSI, L&O,etc.) make you believe differently.

Hey, Vanessa, this is totally off-topic, but I've got a new BatB book for you -- WICKED, a release from HQN this month...

Deadwood.... Do you REALLY think they said "fuck" THAT much back then?

I can't watch Deadwood. Totally ruins the old western for me. Too much bad language and no, Tony, I don't think they did.

Have you ever watched NUMB8RS or Gray's Anatomy? I'm starting to get hooked on both.

I've just recently gotten cable. LOL I haven't had it in 10 years! But Now I find that I love NUMB8RS, and Grey Anatomy looked good too. I only saw one episode. Navy NCIS is a fave, as is VEGAS, and Cold Case.

I thinkthe only hsow that plays up the 48 hours thign is FBI: Missing. It's all about that.

I'm a crime show addict. Law & Order : SVU, Without A Trace, Cold Case, the occasional CSI ( when I can stay up that late ). I also enjoy House ( esp. his jerky behavior). I wasn't really able to get into Crossing Jordon, I don't know why but the characters don't work for me.

I'm definitely going to have to check out The First 48 Hrs...and soon because we're turning off the cable. ACK!

Jaq ~ That's a great Sunday routine. I want that Sunday routine. :)

I've never heard of NUMB8RS, I'll have to check it out, but I have heard of Grey's Anatomy (it was on at the same time as something else I wanted to watch, so GA lost out.)

I don't really think they swore so much back then, but who knows? The writer/creator claims to have studies letters/documents, etc from that era and says they did swear a lot (but I think he's taken a bit of literary liscense with the cursing.) I like DEADWOOD *despite* the swearing. On one hand, I do wish they swore less, on the other hand, I was a big fan of OZ and I think that innured me to all the cussing. :-P

Jordan, I was surprised at how important the first 48hrs were, myself. The shows do misrepresent on that score, but on the other, it's surprising how much they get right, at least in feel.

Kat, you'll love The First 48hrs.

Ooops, meant to thank Diana for the BatB suggestion in my earlier reply, but of course, blogger wouldn't let me back in. :-P
