Goals

Wednesday, December 29, 2004

boy am I a chatty cathy today. *g*. Whilst folding laundry, I thought about my goals for the upcoming year. I really want to write those two mss, and the only way that is going to happen is if I set a goal for 20 pages per week. Which means I'll finish the first draft of a 400 page single title length ms in 4 months. That's like 3 pages per day, if I write every day. That's doable. And while I'm actively writing one mss, I can continue to plot, flesh out story ideas for the next couple of projects. For the last couple of years I've been concerned with learning craft--still am-- but in the last few months, I've been more and more aware of this writing gig being a business and therefore the need to approach it as such. I don't have plans to quit the day job, buy a horse farm in Virginia, a penthouse in Manhattan and live the high life.Cruising

But I wouldn't mind making a nice supplement to my salary (single mom here), and the chance to fatten up the old pension/retirement fund would be sweet. If lady fortune smiles on me beyond that, it would be pure cream.

Anyone else setting writing goals?

Hey darlin, stumbled across your blog and love reading it. :-D

I've been thinking aboutt much the same thing lately, though I haven't been folding any laundry. (Have resorted to wearing stuff off the floor.) I agree about looking at this writing thing as a business.

I think you defintely deserve the Manhattan penthouse, though.

Julie!! tackle hug! Thanks for popping over, hon. Yeah, I've been holding out on you. ::scuffs toe:: But I haven't really been advertising about the blog at all. (Takes a bit of getting used to posting ones thoughts apropos to nothing. gg)

It's just been lately--in the last month--that I started adding the link to my signature at *some* sites, etc. But as you can see I haven't been shy about getting the link up to your website in my posts. Still very proud of you, and happy for you.
