Blood Ties Book One: The Turning
by Jennifer Armintrout
MIRA, June 2006

So now I'm a vampire, and it turns out I have a blood tie to the monster who sired me. The tie works like an invisible leash and I'm bound to him no matter what I do. And of course he's one of the most evil vampires on earth. With my sire hell-bent on turning me into a soulless killer and his sworn enemy set to exterminate me, things couldn't get much worse-- except I'm attracted to them both.

Tomorrow I will hunt down this book, stake it with my debit card, buy it and bag it.

Amazon synopsis/review page here.

And most excellent, kick-ass, excerpt here. ::slobbering::

It's the begining of a series. ::squeeeee::

I bought it on my coffee break, then promptly developed a low level migraine for most of the afternoon/evening. *gg*, But I'll read some pages tonight.

Now when she says she's attracted to her sire...that's the guy who bit her, right?

We're not talking about a 'who's your daddy' situation.... :::gulp:::

(...I had to ask!)

So, thought I'd come back with a follow up on this book. I haven't finished it. Don't think I will either. :-P It started out kick ass, then just kinda lost my interest. In the end, I just didn't care about the characters and what happened to them. I skimmed the last 100pages to satisfy my curiousity, though.

I think the tone changed. Could be in part that the partial was super polished, etc, and the rest of the book wasn't.

Also it seemed at the begining that this was going to be a action/plot driven story. It isn't.

I also didn't really care about any of the characters. Although the 'sire' was very intriguing and the most complex/fleshed out of all the main protags.

I felt there were inconsistencies in characterization and that probably contributed to my not connecting to them.

I did like, love, the world-building. And loved that these vamps were truly vamps who fed and tortured and killed. The author is building to a bigger climax/conflict in successive books so if she hooks you with this one, I think it will be one heck of a ride.
