Reading and Writing

I just read this book, The Shape-Changer's Wife by Sharon Shinn, now I'm going to buy it. I picked it up at the library earlier this week. It was (misplaced) in the YA and was only 200 pages, so I figured it was just the type of not-too-demanding read I was looking for. The book is fabulous. Sharon Shinn has a very elegant, clean, prose style. The characters were well fleshed out, the pacing spot on (no draggy parts *at all*) and the ending just ripped at my heart. A keeper book for sure. I have several of her Archangel books in my tbr pile, but haven't gotten to them yet. Anywho, check this book out when you have a chance.

As for me writing. Not really. Too much on my plate in real life. At one point I did tap out some scenes that were jumbled in my head, I thought they were primarily to do with the subplot, but by the time I got them down in some semblance of order I realized I'd almost outlined the whole book, and the scenes where basically the primary storyline where major hints of the subplots were interwoven. Ironically there's only one section of the story that's not fleshed out and that's the part where the h/h are pretty much isolated together. It also happens to be in the middle of the book. This should be sending 'sagging middle' red flag alarms off, but it's not. I'm pretty sure the whole section will be intensely emotional and erotic--compared to the rest of the story where's there's so much else (intrigue, love triangle, assassination attempts, etc) going on--so I'm looking forward to it.

I'm still feeling like crap, a little worse for wear this particularly since I went out for dinner with friends last night, instead of keeping my ass at home and resting, but I'll try to peck away at the keyboard and see what I come up with.

Sash, being around good friends does help with general frame of mind, for sure. I"m not sure if I'm 'trucking' lol, I'd like to be writing actually pages of the wip, but I'm surprised I *know* the story so well.

Jorie, after I read this one, I was going to dig up the Archangel books I have, but then I noticed quite a few of the AMAZON reviews pointing out that this book is different from that series, and there were a couple of people who liked one, but not the other. I think I'll savor the good vibes I picked up from The Shape-Changer's Wife a bit longer before I tried something of Shinn's that might disappoint. If you're suffering from the same bug I am, then I wish you good health, soonest.
